The article is devoted to the analysis of the historic experience of professional preparation of teachers under conditions of building in Ukraine in 1920s system of public education oriented on social development of a child. The object of the study is a higher educational institution of a new type - Institutes of people’s education meant to cover the gap between an academic and a pragmatic model of professional-pedagogical education.
