In the second half of the XIX century, the feminist movement emerged in Europe and Russia, and the theoretical search for a solution to the emancipation of the weaker gender begins. In Russia, this process was called the “women’s question”, the development and implementation of which belonged to the Bolsheviks. Women were an powerful force capable of actively influencing political processes, and their support for the Bolsheviks was of particular importance. However, the successful resolution of this question depended largely on the consciousness and self-awareness of women themselves. Based on sociocultural and critical analysis, the article examines the works of V.I. Lenin, N.K. Krupskaya, I.F. Armand, A.M. Kollontai and L.D. Trotsky. Conclusion dwells upon the fact that the theoretical developments planned to solve the “women’s question” by giving the representatives of the fair sex political rights and by including them in the process of governing the state. Both N.K. Krupskaya and A.M. Kollontai were the most consistent in their elaborations, seeing as a condition of political activism, the liberation of women from domestic problems. Developing their ideas, L.D. Trotsky paid attention to the cultural education of women.
