The reasonable period of criminal proceedings as a legal value of the court

Many challenges of the court case law concerning respect for the right to trial within a reasonable time update the principle of the reasonable period of criminal proceedings. This principle should be considered as one of the legal values in criminal procedure from the perspective of the axiological approach. The research reviews the key points reflecting the legal and axiological nature of the reasonable period of criminal proceedings represented in the generally accepted international and Russian criminal procedure laws. The focus of the judges on the value element of the right to criminal proceedings within the reasonable period is of high relevance to criminal justice procedure intended to enhance the effectiveness of providing citizens with guarantees of a fair trial within a reasonable time.
