The author studies the tendencies of the American press development in 1920s. The objects under study are the largest papers of the USA: Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, Chicago Daily News. The article notes the leading role of the identity of the publisher. He defined the paper philosophy, in terms of which journalists conducted their activity and rivaled broadcasting. The author analyzes mass-media innovations, where foreign newspaper bureaus and their importance for international relations expansion play the key role.
