The article substantiates the development of the process of development and application of information technologies in all spheres of activity. The concept and functions of geoinformation systems are presented. The main stages of the formation of the global geoinformation infrastructure in the spatial data infrastructure of Russia are presented. The main results of implementation are analyzed.
