The significance and place of the history of medicine in the upbringing of a modern doctor can not be overestimated, since its main goal is to study the history, laws and logic of the development of medicine, medicine and medical activity throughout the history of mankind. At the same time, problems of an objective analysis of historical phenomena, achievements and prospects for the development of medicine and health care, the formation of medical science and practice are being solved. It is during the study of medical history that students get acquainted with the life of outstanding scientists and doctors of the world, with the achievements of outstanding civilizations and every era in the field of medicine, science and medical activities. Students in a medical college begin to study the history of medicine in the first year, when ethical principles of medical activity are cultivated, features of the development of medical ethics are analyzed, moral qualities are cultivated-love of one’s profession, loyalty to duty, feelings of humanism, The analysis of historical experience and the issues put forward by modernity in the light of the further development of medicine in our country is an unquestionable contribution to the solution of urgent public health problems. The urgency of generalizing the history of Russian medicine and health care is beyond doubt, since the history of medicine and public health is an integral part of Russia’s socio-political history. At present, objective assessments of all stages of the development of medicine and public health in the country are needed, an analysis of achievements and shortcomings, strategies and tactics of the organization of public health protection.
