Since 2019, the fuel and energy complex (FEC) of the Republic of Senegal has been actively developing, including the oil and gas sector. As estimated, Senegal has significant oil and natural gas reserves in recently discovered fields (Greater Tortue Ahmeyim, Sangomar, Yakaar Teranga), which require additional investment, infrastructure and qualifications for exploitation. The Republic of Senegal has developed a clear strategy to exploit its rich energy potential and move away from fuel, oil, coal and imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) to generation of electricity from hydrocarbons produced in the country. In this research we have used a mixed method, involving review of literature, study of foreign and domestic open sources, project data and reports of operating companies. The results show the current status and challenges of the oil and gas sector in the Republic of Senegal, legislative shortcomings, economic and social problems and risks associated with environmental pollution.
