The article analyzes the policy of public education, which appeared in Cossack settlements in Kuban after 1793. The influence of cultural traditions belonging to the previous Cossack place of living (Zaporozhsraya Sech) on the policy has been shown. The overview of forms and methods of spiritual and moral assimilation of local tribes and nationalities has been given. The peculiar features of schools in Cossack villages have been presented.
