The article describes the united European higher education space, which is developing in accordance with the logic of the Bologna process. The recently established conception of “Europe of Knowledge” is defined. The authors deduce that the Russian higher education can be competitive under the stipulation that it meets the requirements of the Bologna process system, which is interpreted as a factor supporting achievement of socioeconomic goals. According to the authors, the urgent objective of the modern higher school is not only training of a highly skilled expert, but also raising a person who is community-minded, ready for changes in social and professional environment.
