This research analyzes the development of the school mathematical education in Russia. It also examines the changes that took place over the past century with a special emphasis on the reform of the 1970-s. The authors conclude that the school is in a constant state of searching for compromise, and that a more pragmatic approach to selection of the mathematics curriculum has been used recently.
