Development of school mathematics in the USSR as a prerequisite to the current state of the Russian mathematical education

This research analyzes the development of the school mathematical education in Russia. It also examines the changes that took place over the past century with a special emphasis on the reform of the 1970-s. The authors conclude that the school is in a constant state of searching for compromise, and that a more pragmatic approach to selection of the mathematics curriculum has been used recently.
