Бесплатный доступ

The article deals with the history of military-historical museums of Russia at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. Key changes in the work of existing museums at that time are associated with an increase in the number of visitors and a greater focus on attracting the general public, rebuilding expositions on a subject-chronological principle, as well as expanding collections and increasing government attention to the issues of preserving and cataloging military objects. Another trend of this period was the creation of new museums, the main impetus was provided by the end of the conquest of the Caucasus and Central Asia, and a series of anniversary events of the beginning of the 20th century. The author pays attention to large-scale, but also unrealized projects of the Russian Military History Museum and the National Museum of the Great War.
