Socio-Demographic Research Development at VolRC RAS: On the 10th Anniversary of the Journal “Social Area”

The year of 2025 marks the 5th anniversary of the first issue of the journal “Social Area”, the main purpose of which was to create a discussion platform for scientists and provide a wide range of scientific community and practitioners with the opportunity to get acquainted with the results of scientific research in the humanities and social sciences, to participate in the discussion of issues raised, to present different points of view on changing the social space. The creation of such a platform was extremely relevant in the light of pressing social problems that determine the strategic objectives of monitoring the social and demographic development of Russia and its regions, assessing their determinants and the effectiveness of state social and family demographic policy. The aim of the study is to summarize the experience of Vologda Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the development of the journal “Social Area” as a platform for discussing the results of socio-demographic research and its role in the development of scientific research. The article presents the results of the editorial board's activities over the ten-year period of the journal's publication, which are reflected in the noticeable promotion of the publication in the scientific community, a significant intellectual growth in the potential of authors and members of the editorial board, forming a pool of relevant research on the social and demographic development of the country, the expansion of scientific knowledge and the testing of tools for studying the subject field, including through the synergy of scientific-the research potential of the luminaries and the creative courage of young scientists. The scientific novelty of the research consists in a comprehensive analysis of the formation and development of the journal through the use of a system of parameters – classical quantitative indicators of the journal's development, characterizing the composition and geography of the authors, as well as bibliometric indicators
