Development of sociocultural competence through authentic song discourse at the English lesson in high school

The article considers the development of sociocultural competence in high school students by using authentic materials from song discourse. The authors detail the components of the sociocultural competence, analyze the criteria for selecting the songs aimed at introducing new cultural concepts into the cognitive sphere of the students. A set of exercises is elaborated to work on the lyrics at different stages including the work with audiovisual materials.
