Reaction of the Orthodox Community of the Taurida Governorate to the Planned Withdrawal of the Law of God from the List of Compulsory Subjects of the School Program in 1917

The article is devoted to the issue of relevance of teaching the Law of God as one of the central subjects of primary and secondary school programs at a turning point for Russia on the example of the Taurida Governorate. The article shows the reaction of the believers of Taurida to the decree of the Provisional government on freedom of conscience of July 14, 1917, which later assumed the exclusion of the Law of God from the programs of primary and secondary educational institutions. In the Taurida Governorate, this issue was considered in the framework of an extraordinary diocesan congress, in many deanery and parish meetings, and at meetings of the pedagogical boards of a number of secondary schools. It was unanimously emphasized the need to teach the basics of the Orthodox faith, worship, Biblical and Church history, and the rules of religious morality to children from a very young age. The developed decisions were sent to the highest authorities of both Church and State authorities.
