The article is devoted to the implementation of the competency approach in additional professional education of teachers of children's art schools in terms of reforming art education. Kompetentnostnyj teacher training children's art schools has its own specifics, which is impossible without understanding the restructuring of the educational process in the organizations of additional vocational training in accordance with the new requirements. The article describes the essential characteristics of the competence approach, identified factors that encourage its use in the construction of a new model of teacher children's art schools identified current challenges facing organizations of additional vocational training, among which the most important are the individualization of education and integration incremental nature of knowledge acquisition.
