The abstract assesses the scientific significance of the legislative defects theory developed by A.Yu. Vikulin. It is shown that the theory allows giving a science-based answer to the following questions: what are the legislative defects; what kinds of such defects exist; which legislator’s actions result in such defects and what are the outcomes; what the reasons of the mentioned actions are. The determining role of legislative axiology in this process is substantiated; ways and means of minimizing legislative defects are explored.
