The review provides an overview of the ideas and key problems of the study of European musical canons, which are reflected in the monograph of Doctor of Culturology, Professor A.M. Lesovichenko; promising ways of introducing innovations of scientific research into modern methodology are traced. The author of the review emphasizes the relevance of scientific work in the context of an interdisciplinary synthesis covering a wide field of worldview, sociocultural, church dogmatic and creative views on the complex of problems in the study of cult art under consideration. Of particular importance, according to the author, is the analysis of musical composition as a means of realizing the worldview model in a symbolic form. The general and various principles of the formation of the canonical space are considered on the example of the western and eastern branches of Christian artistic creativity. The scientific research is of inter- est to researchers of musical culture, history and practice of spiritual musical creativity, philosophy of art, art critics, musiciansperformers.
