The paper examines the perception, understanding and reflection of Christian values in the life and activity of such humanist doctors of the XIX–XX centuries as F.P. Haaz, M.Y. Mudrov, N.I. Pirogov, V.A. Manassein, E.S. Botkin, V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky, who influenced the formation of traditions and specificity of Russian medicine. It is shown that their selfless life and medical activity are the practical implementation of the fundamental Christian values of mercy, justice, sacrifice, and the treatment of human life as an absolute value. The reception of basic Christian values (ontological, ethical, anthropological, social) contributed to the creation of a harmonious model of the doctor’s relations with patients, colleagues, the medical community as a whole, and the formation of traditions of Russian medicine. Without these values, medicine loses its meaning as the help to the needy, becoming similar to the sphere of providing services. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that in modern conditions of the transformation of values and meaning of medical activity, in difficult epidemic conditions of medical practice the recourse to the spiritual and practical experience of great humanist doctors is in demand and necessary
