Reception of the decisions of Vatican I in Russia

This article addresses the question of how the doctrine of papal infallibility — the central doctrinal statement accepted in 1870 at the First Vatican Council of the Roman Catholic Church – was received in Russia. The author provides a systematic review of the views of Russian theologians and philosophers of the late 19th – early 20th century and identifies the main reasons behind the mostly negative perception of this new Catholic doctrinal statement in Orthodoxy.
