The author makes a careful analysis of Alesha Karamazov's speech at the stone, compares it with Ivan's speech in the tavern, leads to the idea of what Dostoevsky meant by the term "whole picture": this "whole picture" includes the recognition not only of evil, but also of the potential of good and the reality of good in human nature.
