Aim of the study. To present clinical cases of successful surgical treatment of rare foreign bodies of the intestine and one case of a long-term presence of a foreign body in the intestine. Patients and methods. The results of the examination and treatment of 5 patients with rare foreign bodies, such as toothpicks, fish bones, a metal fragment of a denture, were studied. The age of the patients ranged from 52 to 83 years. There were 3 males and 2 females. Discussion. These observations confirm that intestinal foreign bodies can stay in the intestinal tract for a long time, cause intestinal perforation, simulate acute appendicitis, diverticulitis or intestinal tumor. In two cases, the wall of the small intestine was perforated with sharp wooden toothpicks with their migration into the greater omentum and self-closing of the perforation in the first case. In the second case, the perforation was covered with the mesentery of the sigmoid colon. This led to a prolonged presence of foreign bodies and subsequently simulated a tumor and diverticulitis of the sigmoid colon. In one case, perforation of the ascending colon with a small fish bone simulated acute appendicitis, in another case, the presence of a fish bone in the rectosigmoid section of the rectum led to a pseudotumor, narrowing of the intestine, and chronic intestinal obstruction. Our observations confirm the possibility of a long-term asymptomatic presence of a foreign body in the abdominal cavity. Conclusion. Thus, summarizing the presented material, we can conclude that even in the absence of a history of indications of ingestion of foreign bodies, in practice it is necessary to remember the possibility of such a pathology. Foreign bodies of the intestine can cause perforation of the intestine, with the formation of peritonitis or infiltrates and abscesses of the abdominal cavity, simulate a tumor and intestinal diverticula, acute appendicitis. There may be a long asymptomatic presence of foreign bodies in the intestine.
