In the article the author demonstrates that Russia passed through the serious reform way to establish an effective independent judicial system, based on the democratic principles of justice. And the reformation of the state judicial system is still going on. The author notes, that the modern system of courts of the general jurisdiction is in many aspects similar to the system of the post-reform Russia (in the second half of the 19 th century). The Russian judicial system that existed in the second half of the 19 th century had some advantages, based in the unity of the judiciary and judicial practice, which was provided by the Governing Senate. And now the courts are working separately. Carrying of the judicial reform, abolition of the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation and transferring its functions to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation would promote solving some of the actual problems of the judicial system in modern Russia.
