Region and university as ecosystem: barriers and risks

The study of the ecosystem approach and its further application made it possible, when analyzing the relationship between the university and the region, to focus on the need to form effective mechanisms for coordinating goals and interests, as well as on the critical importance of relationships between ecosystem participants, and not just on their separate external and internal development. The components of the ecosystem were identified, which are both quite tangible (for example, the presence of participants of different levels, the consent of participants to provide data, etc.) and abstract (for example, adaptability, trust, co-development, etc.). Further, the stages of the life cycle of the region and the university as an ecosystem were identified, which involves classically distinguished 4 stages, in accordance with which barriers and risks were identified. Barriers in the transition from one stage to another are most often associated with the loss of trust between ecosystem participants and the impossibility of deepening harmonization processes, while the risks identified already in the process of functioning of the ecosystem within one of the stages affect the applied management decisions and the emergence of such goals and objectives. interests that cannot be reconciled.
