The aim of this work is to determine the role of regional radio in the formation of a sociocultural community in a multiethnic region; state radio broadcasting in the Republic of Adygea is considered as a research case. Scientific studies devoted to the history of radio and other aspects, archival documents, microphone folders with texts of radio broadcasts aired in different historical periods, and long-term plans of the Committee for Radio Broadcasting and Television of Adygea are analyzed. The structural-functional and diachronic methods, observation methods, and the descriptive method are used. The formation and development of regional radio in the period preceding the Great Patriotic War are analyzed. Considerable attention is paid to the development of radio broadcasting in Adygea in the post-war decades. The dominance of the agitation and propaganda function in the activities of the state radio station is emphasized. Among other functions, the following are identified: updating of historical and cultural memory, preservation of interethnic harmony, and educational one. The positive influence of radio broadcasts on the mutual enrichment of the cultures of small peoples and Russian culture is noted. The article examines the topics of cultural and educational radio broadcasts related to various artistic genres (musical genre, creative portrait of the performer, radio theater). Examples of listeners' attitudes to the regional radio program, reflected in surviving questionnaires and letters to the editor, are given. The article points to the constant nature of party control over regional radio broadcasting, which weakened only in the second half of the 1980s. The article notes the active work in the direction of nurturing tolerance and mutual respect among the peoples living in Adygea, characteristic of the activities of the republican radio in the 1990s; describes the organizational changes that occurred with the system of republican radio broadcasting at the turn of the 21st century; reflects the strengthening of its information function in the subsequent period. The influence of new information and communication technologies on the work of regional state radio is studied. It is concluded that, in the 20th century, it remained the most significant mass media in Adygea due to the communication, cultural, educational, and integrative functions inherent in artistic broadcasting. Seven main periods of development of the state radio of Adygea are identified. The author comes to the conclusion that modern Adygean radio needs a synthesis of the broadcasting traditions of the 20th century and new modern genres.
