Regional feature films as an alternative to popular culture

The surge in the development of regional feature films is currently not accidental, it is due to many factors, the main of which is the expansion of the expansion of mass culture, due to the development of the information society and mass media, as well as the processes of digitalization. The author identifies two groups of factors that have become the most important triggers for the activation of regional cinema. The first group consists of internal factors that determine the improvement of cinematographic technology, the development of organizational and financial instruments and the increase in creative resources, which have significantly facilitated the production of feature films on the ground. External (socio-cultural) factors have also become significant in the formation and development of regional cinema. This is the need to eliminate the disharmony that has arisen between centralized and peripheral (regional) cinema on a value level, satisfying people’s demands for the realization of local cultural identity. This process was facilitated by: the diversification of channels for the distribution of regional films; the formation of an “own” audience, the holding of regional contests and festivals of feature films.
