The rating system as a means of self-organizing engineering education

To increase the reliability of evaluation the quality of progress in studies it is offered to supplement the average number by asymmetry of distribution of estimations, and also to use ideas of statistical quality control and practical experience for establishing a relation between these parameters. With the help of these parameters on an example of an engineering faculty it is shown that the matter is safe only in general professional subjects. In the Humanities the average number is overstated and in special subjects is too much inhomogeneous. As a means of self-organizing the educational process a rating system is offered, first of all, in subjects taught by chairs directly involved in graduation process, and in the Humanities This proposal is based on long-term experience of the author in its use in special and humanitarian subjects. Besides the complementation of the average number evaluation by asymmetry, it is offered to use the concept of «diligence». Our practice has shown that this parameter has high correlation with the objective quality of progress.
