The author discusses a possibility of attracting advertising published on the pages of periodicals, as a historical source for the reconstruction of everyday city life during the World War I. The author reveals the features of the structural location and content format of advertising published in the periodicals. On the basis of the advertising materials published in the newspapers «Volzhsky den’» («Volga Day»), «Volzhskoe slovo» («Volga Word»), «Kazansky Telegraf» («Kazan Telegraph»), «Kazanskaya gazeta» («Kazan newspaper») the author analyzes the possibility of using advertising products in the study of everyday life of citizens, for the reconstruction of the urban area, wardrobe, fashion trends, leisure, and common terminology.
