The article traces the main stages in the development and formation of reconstructive surgery for gastric cancer. A review of the literature was carried out in order to identify the optimal physiological method of reconstruction in patients with gastric cancer after gastrectomy and subtotal resections. The basis for the reconstruction of the upper gastrointestinal tract is a combination of the proper esophageal-intestinal anastomosis with the corresponding approach to the reconstruction of the food transit pathway through the small intestine. To date, esophagojejunoanastomosis with a minimum number of sutures is optimal. More than 70 variants of reconstructions after gastrectomies and subtotal resections for gastric cancer are described in the literature, many of which are used in practice.
