The purpose of the study is to consider the possibility of returning to agricultural production of floodplain lands, torn away as a result of open pit mining of brown coal deposits in the territory of Eastern Transbaikalia. The priority direction of reclamation is agricultural, i.e. land should be reclaimed mainly for arable land and other agricultural land. The validity of the directions of reclamation is carried out on the basis of four groups of criteria: 1) natural conditions: relief, geology, soils, climate, vegetation, hydrogeology. According to these criteria, engineering-geological and hydrological-geological conditions, composition and properties of overburden rocks and their suitability for reclamation are of particular importance; 2) economic-geographical, economic, socio-economic and sanitary-hygienic conditions, as well as the prospects for the development of the region, the requirements of the scientific territorial organization of productive forces and environmental protection; 3) development of technology and complex mechanization of mining and installation and construction works, the period of operation and the stage of development of enterprises that disturb soil and soil; 4) ecological and economic feasibility and social effect of reclamation work. Using these criteria, in densely populated areas with a favorable climate, where crop production is developed, reclamation should have a predominantly agricultural direction. This direction is also very important for areas with focus farming. For example, along the valleys of Siberian rivers, where dredging works are taken out of agricultural use, the only land plots that are possible here for farming are insignificant in area.
