The religious chant in Dagestan: genre peculiarities and the origins of melody

This article discusses the basic typological features of the religious chant - nasheed popular in Dagestan. In the process of analyzing the local features of the anasheed the author has identified that the intonation vocabulary of the religious musical and poetic genres of the Dagestan autochthons is formed in the context of the universal European musical thinking. The author points out the interpenetration of the musical art and performance of the religious chant tradition and the popular music.
