Religious extremism and terrorism in Central Asia as a strategic issue

The article is devoted to the study of religious extremism and terrorism in the Central Asian region in the context of regional and national security. It is shown that this problem is not local, but transnational, and poses a threat to the security of society. The factors of the importance of the mega-region from a geopolitical perspective are highlighted. The article analyzes the origins of religious extremism and terrorism based on the research of foreign experts on this issue, which shows that religious extremism has become an integral part of the social and political life of several countries in the region. The common goals of religious extremist groups in Central Asia (CA) are identified. The author analyzes the causes of the spread of radical ideologies, the activities of extremist organizations, and the existing preventive measures taken by the countries of the region. Special attention is paid to the youth audience, information technologies, and transnational channels of influence. In conclusion, the author notes that, in general, in order to reduce the manifestations of religious extremism in the vast Central Asian region, it is necessary to take preventive measures aimed at creating optimal and effective socioeconomic conditions for the younger generation and other risk groups. The article emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach that includes education, scientific expertise, interstate cooperation, and dialogue with spiritual leaders.
