Renal anemia in cats with chronic kidney disease

Acute and chronic renal failure (ARF, CRF) is one of the most severe forms of kidney pathology in animals, which occurs in the form of a serious impairment of the organ's function and is accompanied by an increased content of nitrogenous metabolic products in the blood (mainly urea and creatinine). Renal anemia is a polyetiological complication of chronic kidney disease, leading to insufficient supply of tissues and organs with oxygen, as well as to a decrease in the immunity of the animal's body. The aim of this study is to examine the use of Darbepoetin, a recombinant analogue of human erythropoietin, to stimulate erythropoiesis and effectively treat cats with renal anemia in veterinary clinics and centers in Orel. The experimental part of the work was carried out on the basis of veterinary clinics and centers in Orel, the Department of Epizootology and Therapy of the Orel State Agrarian University. The study involved 20 cats of both sexes and different breeds, aged 2-14 years old. Animal groups were formed based on the principle of analogues. Clinically healthy animals served as controls. The diagnosis of renal anemia was established in a comprehensive manner, taking into account the anamnesis data, clinical examination of animals, blood and urine tests, and ultrasound examination of the kidneys. The therapeutic efficacy of Darbepoetin was assessed in a comprehensive manner, taking into account the clinical examination data, the results of general and biochemical blood and urine tests, and ultrasound examination of the kidneys in comparison with the standard nephroprotective therapy regimen, including Nephroantitox, Angioflux, Torasemide, Selamirex, and Zemplar in doses according to the instructions for the drugs. The results of our clinical study of experimental animals with renal anemia due to chronic kidney disease showed high therapeutic efficiency of the drug Darbepoetin for stimulating erythropoiesis, relieving hypoxia and restoring the functional capacity of the kidneys.
