The authors of the article consider how the essence of sonnets by W. Wordsworth is represented in Russian culture. The key notion of the research is that of poeticity, which is regarded as a typological dominant of the literary text, integrating such its typological traits as the artistic idea, emotivity, imagery, and aesthetic verbal (verse) form. From a philosophical perspective, poeticity is regarded as the essential property of a text, differentiating it from other text types. The comparative analysis of ST and TT is based on the principle of ST poeticity representation in TT. The authors reveal that the poeticity of sonnets by W. Wordsworth is determined by the poet's philosophical and aesthetic views and characterize means used by translators to represent the author's ideas, emotions, system of images and adherence to the Italian sonnet canon, which caused the major difficulty in translation. It is concluded that Russian translations of sonnets by W. Wordsworth are not numerous, however, they belong to either consonant or consonant-dissonant types, which allows them to represent the essence of W. Wordsworth's artistic heritage in Russian culture.
