The article is devoted to the research of such phenomenon of the Russian culture as the hospitality. Russian literature is the research is the immortal text of the poem “Dead souls” by N.V. Gogol. The author insistently reveals preliminary, liminary, postliminary and subliminary rituals and such linked ashects as shelter, treatment, gifting and seeing off. Presenting all these facts in the poem is the layer of traditional cultural life of a small estate Russian nobles and officialdom. The result of the study is the substantiation of the position that the guest and the host are represented in different guises, but in any case, everyone somehow performs the rites of hospitality. At the same time, such changes of the Russian culture as the culture of hospitality are presented.
