The phenomenon of resentment was first introduced at the end of the 19th century by Friedrich Nietzsche. Nowadays, it is of particular relevance to modern society. The dynamic social and cultural processes contribute to fundamental changes in society as well as have an impact on the development of consciousness and behavior of social actors. The ideas of European and Russian researchers considering resentment in the moral and ethical or axiological aspect and recognizing its role in the development of new values allow one to reconstruct this concept to some extent. From the standpoint of the social and philosophical approach, resentment is described as a social phenomenon which arises on the basis of social differentiation of society when it is impossible to meet the material and spiritual needs. The danger of resentment lies in its ability to be converted into a force that unites social actors, i.e. social movements that pose a threat to the stability of society.
