The article provides a retrospective analysis of protest activity in Moscow in the period from 2010 to 2020: more than 43 events, in which over one thousand people participate, took place in the form of protest activity. Protest activity in this paper refers to a type of social activity based on perceived relative deprivation, which has a public expression and is directed at groups with a power resource. Publications from 2010 to 2020 in print and electronic media containing information about protest activity in Moscow were used as an empirical basis for the study. These materials allow us to trace the genesis, implementation and transformation of protest activity in the city. The main objective of the paper is to describe the characteristic features of the different stages of the implementation of protest activity in the specified time period and to trace the changes taking place with the protest movement. The paper asserts that protest activity in Moscow since 2010 has consistently gone through various forms of sanctioned and unauthorized actions that include new communication and information technologies in their organization process. Thus, by 2020, protest activity has already acquired its well-developed socio-technological basis, which began to acquire a mixed character of involvement and implementation, to a hybridized form of real and virtual protest, which allows to influence a wider audience.
