The article examines the role of revolutionary legal consciousness as a source of law in the first decade after the establishment of Soviet power. The author identifies the main theoretical and methodological approaches to the understanding of revolutionary legal consciousness and the stages of its formation in the 1920s. Particular attention is paid to the essence and evolution of revolutionary legal consciousness. In the course of the research the works of V.I. Lenin, P.I. Stuchka, D.I. Kursky, M.A. Reisner, G.M. Portugalov, A.A. Soltz and others were analyzed. The work used analysis, chronological and dialectical methods, as well as the principles of historicism and objectivity. Following the establishment of Soviet power there were drastic changes in the legal system, associated with the rejection of the legal experience of overthrown governments and the beginning of the construction of Soviet law, the leading role in which played a revolutionary legal consciousness.
