In world practice, asphalt concrete mixtures are most widely used for the construction of road surfaces. Constantly increasing axle loads and increased traffic intensity require the consideration of new materials to prolong the service life of public roads between repairs. Constantly growing number of road transport and consequently car tires number require new ways of their disposal, since their accumulation leads to increasing environment pollution. This article discusses possibility of using asphalt concrete mixtures based on modified bitumen with crumb rubber obtained by processing worn-out car tires and other rubber products. It gives characteristics of the materials making up the asphalt concrete mixture, as well as operational experience with asphalt concrete pavements based on crumb rubber.
