Resistance and growth activity in calves under the influence of chitosan

The authors investigated the effect of acid-soluble chitosan on activity of immune system, microorganisms content in gastro-intestinal tract and also average daily liveweight gain, morbidity and viability of calves of the Black-and-White breed during their feeding by whole milk or milk substitute. It was shown, that the addition of preparation to rations of 1,5-4 months of ages of calves promotes to raise of anabolic processes activity, viability and nonspecific resistance in animals. This effect became more apparent in calves on whole milk feeding as compared with calves on whole milk analog feeding and kept in less favorable microclimatic conditions.
