Treatment results for 569 breast cancer patients were analyzed. All patients were divided into 3 groups with respect to histological examination findings. Group I comprised 63 patients with carcinoma in situ. Group II included 220 patients with invasive cancer concurrent with carcinoma in situ. Group III consisted of 286 patients with invasive breast cancer. For 53 patients (84,1 %), surgical treatment started with sectoral resection. The extent of surgery was enlarged up to radical resection, subtotal resection and subcutaneous mastectomy with one-stage restorative surgery of the breast for 35 patients. Regional metastases were observed in 6,3 % of patients. Axillary lymph nodes were involved with tumor in all cases. For Group I, the 5-year survival rate was 100 % and recurrence-free survival rate was 82,4 ± 6,5 %. Risk for local recurrence after radical resection was higher for patients with invasive breast cancer concurrent with carcinoma in situ than for patients with breast cancer without carcinoma in situ (14,3 ± 6,7 % versus 6,9 ± 2,2 %). Differences in the local recurrence rate were not significant for patients who underwent subtotal resections. No local recurrence was observed in patients who underwent subcutaneous mastectomy. No differences in long-term results were found between the patients with invasive breast cancer concurrent with carcinoma in situ and the patients with invasive breast cancer without carcinoma in situ.
