Purpose. To evaluate the clinical efficacy and tolerability of blue light phototherapy (λmax = 450 nm) in the treatment of patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. Material and methods. Thirty patients (twenty women) diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), mean age 67.7 ± 7.3 years were examined during three consecutive stages: before blue light phototherapy (BLPT), 10 days from the beginning and one month after the end of BLPT. The examination included standard ophthalmological and additional methods: static automatic perimetry, pattern electroretinography (PERG), optical coherence tomography (OCT, and biochemical analyses of serum lipids and their fractions, platelets and fibrinogen. Results indicate significant positive dynamics of the mean deviation of retinal light sensitivity (MD), a reduction in the area and depth, an improvement in the retinal biopotential of retinal ganglion cells assessed by PERG, slow down of negative dynamics of the average thickness of retinal nerve fibers and the thickness of the retinal ganglion cell complex (RGCC) assessed by OCT; improvement of the serum lipid profile of and blood clotting system indices.
