Results of interdisciplinary studies of the Mangup hillfort and its vicinity in 2015

This paper deals with preliminary results of interdisciplinary studiesconducted at the Mangup settlement in 2015. The traditional object of excavations wasthe palace of the Principality of Theodor rulers (1425-1475). Excavations were launchedin the Church of St. George (14th-16th centuries) under the Project entitled “The Doros-Theodoro Population: Results of the Archaeological and Anthropological Analysisof the Mangup Settlement necropolis (4th-17th centuries)”. Another new project of theexpedition is entitled “Historical Topography of the Country of Dori in the South-WestCrimea. Comprehensive Archaeological and Geophysical Research”. Its aim is to bringarchaeological studies of the areas around Mangup to a higher level of activity. In 2015excavations were carried out in the so-called Markevich Basilica (9th-10th centuries) andthe Sutkan pottery center in the Adym-Chokrak valley south of Mangup. The most distantsite that was investigated is an early Byzantine fortress known as Sivag-Kermen, which islocated in the middle reaches of the Belbek River (6th century).
