Evaluation of quality of life in women with fibrocystic mastopathy during a long-term post-operational period

The purpose of the paper is to study the quality of life (QoL) in patients with fibrocystic mastopathy during a long-term postoperative period. Materials and Methods. The authors carried out a clinical investigation of QoL in patients who underwent operative treatment for fibrocystic mastopathy. Group 1 consisted of 62 patients. Twenty-nine women underwent laser vaporization of the mammary gland cysts controlled by ultrasound, and 33 women underwent sclerotherapy of mammary gland cysts with 1 % Fibrovein solution, also controlled by ultrasound. The conventional periareolar surgical approach was used in Group 2 (20 patients). Group 3 consisted of 15 healthy women. The Russian version of the SF-36 questionnaire was used to interview all the women 12 months after operation in order to assess their QoL. Results. QoLs in patients, who underwent periareolar operative treatment, were lower, by every measure, than in patients who underwent minimally invasive surgery.
