Results of implementing at Novosibirsk State University of the project research on fundamental problems on archaeology and ethnography North and East Asia in the framework of the Russian science foundation (2014-2016)

Purpose. A high level of fundamental scientific research in the field of archaeology, ethnography and oriental studies, carried out at the Novosibirsk State University, is confirmed by the numerous facts of their financial support from a number of programs and funds, including such an authoritative organization as the Russian Science Foundation. In recent years, the largest of these projects has been the grant of the RCF, which was aimed at carrying out in 2014-2016 fundamental research on archaeology and ethnography in North and East Asia. The purpose of this publication is an objective assessment of the results of the activities in these years in the main areas of the project. Results. In the work on the grant up to 100 people were involved - researchers, service personnel, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students. The newest methods of field study of archaeological objects of different epochs were applied. The analysis of collections of archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, their restoration and interpretation were carried out. As a result, significant volumes of fundamental scientific results were obtained on urgent problems of archaeology, ethnography and demography of the peoples of Siberia and a number of neighboring regions. These include: the Concept of the essence of migration processes in South Siberia in the Paleolithic era; Characterization of the role of interethnic contacts in the formation of cultures of the Bronze Age of Western Siberia; Theory of the formation of a culture of life support for cattle breeders in the steppe and forest-steppe in the era of early iron and the Middle Ages; a Scheme for the development of mythological representations of the immediate ancestors of the modern indigenous peoples of the region. The results of the research were actively discussed among specialists at a number of scientific conferences of the highest level. The largest international scientific forum - the Russian-German Symposium «Multidisciplinary Methods in Archaeology», was independently organized and held. Scientific achievements are integrated into the educational process at the University in a number of disciplines. This led to an improvement in the quality of training of young specialists. Conclusion. Products of scientific and educational nature for 2014-2016 are presented in the form of 12 monographs (with 5 planned), 24 articles in scientific journals included in the Scopus and Web of Science databases (with 14 planned), 137 articles in other scientific publications (with 52 planned). A number of training courses have been updated. A large amount of scientific and popularizing work was carried out, including the Internet. The existing deficiencies were successfully eliminated at subsequent stages of activity. The main actual directions of scientific and educational search for the near future are outlined. In general, the scientific results and products of educational and scientific nature significantly exceed the targets. More than two-year implementation of the project's objectives has become a significant contribution to the solution of the University's tasks of promotion in the international rating of universities.
