Risk taking potential of extremism in the North Caucasus

The article considers the issue concerning counteraction to public danger of political extremism in the North Caucasus from the position of sociological analysis. The federal authority has applied the strategy for suppression. The main tactical means have become military and anti-terrorist operation in Chechnya as well as strengthening criminal and legal control and counter-propaganda. The military and anti-terrorist operation in Chechnya has interrupted the tendency for increase of political extremism threat, but has not put an end to terrorism which is supported from the outside.
