Youth' choice of nonprofessional occupations in the family context

The article examines the influence of parents' work experience on the children's choice of their nonprofessional occupations. The results of the study "Young Russian worker and his/her life strategies in the context of socio-economic problems" are the empirical data for this article, namely the semistandardization interviews with young workers and their parents. The base for the data analysis was the family context of the career choice. Family contexts define the correctness of the career choice based on professional orientation and parents' work experience of young workers. The background of parents' employment was analyzed. The most important indicators of influence on the young's choice of nonprofessional occupations are parents' mobility (geographic, labour), nonprofessional work experience and education (presence / absence of a university degree). The author gives particular emphasis on distinctions in the course of the choice of nonprofessional occupations in the families of workers and families of professionals and employees. It also focuses on the formation specificity of the social worker's role in the families. The interrelation of success / failure of parents professional destiny with social role formation of the worker is shown. The article emphasizes the intergenerational differences.
