The genealogy of Praskovya Torgashina, mother of the great Russian artist Vasily Surikov

Torgashina Praskovya Fedorovna (13.10.1818-4.02.1895) was the se- cond wife of the artist's father Ivan Surikov. It was established that the an- cestor of Praskovia Fyodorovna Torgashina had been walking Cossack "Yakov Petrov Torgosha". He served in Krasnoyarsk prison since 1629 in Tomsk hundred as one-year hired man, and a year later voluntarily moved to partially previously disbanded first Krasnoyarsk garrison. Contrary to popular belief, on which persistently insisted even the artist himself, on his mother, he did not come from Cossacks, but from five near tribes of peasant branch of the Torgashins, starting from his great-grandfather Andrey Konstantinovich, who was rewritten down from Cossack son in peasants.
