The role of agrotourism in the context of sustainable development of the industrial region

Tourism is an important source of income for most countries, no exception for Russia. The variety of types of tourism is due to a number of factors, including natural and climatic conditions, the formation of basic industries in the region, the priorities of socio-economic development, etc. Domestic tourism has been of interest as a new direction of rural tourism (agritourism) in the last decade. The relevance of the development of rural tourism is confirmed by the international experience of the countries of Europe, Asia, and America. It has been proven that this type of activity is a source of potential socio-economic benefits for villagers, farmers, and regional authorities. Rural tourism does not develop everywhere and is multidirectional in Russia. So, the central part has its own history of development of rural tourism, while the regions of Siberia and the Far East are just beginning to form it. The project presents an analysis of the tourism potential of rural areas of the Kemerovo region - Kuzbass, that is priority-oriented for mining. The specificity of the region lies in a fairly large territory with a low population density, characterized by both the concentration of the industry (coal, metallurgy), and numerous of monotown, towns and villages. The project describes the barriers hindering the development of rural tourism and the challenges associated with them. Taking into account the specifics of the Kemerovo region - Kuzbass, ways to overcome barriers are proposed.
