The role of anthroponymic lexis in sports press

The article describes functioning of proper names and their role in texts of sports media discourse. The usage of names is influenced by the emotionally marked context, intention to make the message less official and more dynamic, to express the relations of opposition. Proper names serve as precedent names, give rise to neologisms, play of words and are used for attracting readers' attention and indicating the source of information.
