The author dwells on the associative method used for learning vocabulary and shares her experience in the field. The article investigates vocabulary tasks from the point of activating associative mechanisms involved. It also presents the ways of developing communication competencies necessary for every day and professional communication in a foreign language on the basis of the associative method.
